Parenting and making the most of the early years
Growing into adulthood
Coping with grief, depression and the results of abuse
Positively managing education and other opportunities and
Building supportive friendships, networks, and a sense of purpose and belonging
Strategies detailed within the Storybook 2004 include the production of kits and booklets, therapy groups, courses, support groups, arts activities, exercise and sporting events, outings, forums and camps. The stories refer to the partnerships made between different agencies to promote wellbeing. Through the projects, over 1500 people were empowered to contribute to their own emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing. Participants have been collaborating, listening, thinking, talking, discussing, debating, learning, sharing, playing, singing, collaging, drumming, sculpting, writing, painting, crying, laughing, struggling, accepting, connecting and supporting.
3 Storybooks can be accessed via this website, detailing 18 projects in 2002, 30 in 2003, and 43 in 2004. The Storybooks aim to support the sustainability and sharing of knowledge and skills that have been developed across the Hills Mallee Southern Region. The stories challenge traditional illness-focussed definitions of health, by focussing on wellbeing and mutual support, empowerment of individuals and groups, building upon strengths, and advocating for collaborative action and participation to address health issues identified by communities.
