Since we started the Regional Scholarship Program in 2002 we have awarded scholarships to 5 Undergraduate Students, four Nursing and one Allied Health. In 2004 one of the Nursing recipients worked in the Region as part of the scholarship conditions, we have two working in the Region this year and next year the Allied Health recipient will commence work in the Region for three years. One of the Students who received a 2 year scholarship withdrew from the program and she repaid the funding that she had received.

This year it has been decided that the Region will use the remaining scholarship funding allocated by the Region to sponsor Nurses who are currently employed in this Region to undertake Post Graduate Mental Health Nursing studies. We are currently negotiating with Flinders University for six nurses to undertake the Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing.

This year also the Department of Health, as part of their Rural Health Scholarship Program, has awarded ten Scholarships to undergraduate and post graduate students who come from the HMS Region. The successful applicants are as follows:

The awarding of these postgraduate scholarships is evidence of the depth of skill and expertise of the people we have working in the Region and their ongoing commitment to professional development which is to be applauded.
