The Adequate Records Management Standard has changed!!! There are now not ten, but ELEVEN wonderful outcomes for us to comply with by 2009.
Outcome Eleven has been introduced as part of the Adequate Records Management Standard. This outcome presents standard compliance outcomes for records management 'resourcing' within a government organisation. This outcome provides that all agencies must have suitable records management positions within the agency, as well as qualified practitioners to occupy such roles.
What does this mean for us?
This means, as Health Units, we firstly need to review our records management practices, and the current level of resourcing allocated to such tasks against the State Records, 'Records Management Resourcing Benchmarks & Classification Equity for South Australian Government'. This guideline provides State Government agencies with a clear indication of the classification of records management 'officers' according to their recordkeeping responsibilities within the organisation.
The benchmark also sets out records management resource requirements according to agency size (see page 17 of the Benchmark document).
In order to be meeting level 2 of this eleventh outcome, agencies need to adopt the State Records resourcing benchmark and commit to establishing relevant records management roles within the organisation with approprately qualified and knowledgable practitioners filling these positions.
Ultimately, agencies need to be meeting level 4 of this outcome (as well as the compliance levels for each of the other 10 outcomes) by 2009.
